print design for an a/w '19 mens collection

Colorblind explores the limitations of vision through experimental print design. Inspired by artist Pierre Soulages, the project features high-contrast black and white prints that reflect the visual experience of color-blind individuals.

Color blindness is a complex subject that demands in-depth research and a thoughtful approach. After weeks of study and conversations with color-blind individuals and supporters from Blindenwerk Berlin, I developed the first print designs, which were later tested and refined through direct feedback. Gradually, an extensive collection emerged, designed to be as androgynous and gender-neutral as the condition itself.
Ultimately, my collection was awarded a scholarship by NEO.Fashion, giving me the opportunity to present it in a dedicated show at Berlin Fashion Week.

For individuals with limited visual acuity, strong contrast values are essential for distinguishing colors. This principle shaped the foundation of the collection, where form and color are reduced to their essence, creating a striking visual impact. Rather than focusing on intricate silhouettes, the design emphasizes geometry and surfaces to enhance contrast. Special attention is also given to texture and materiality, ensuring a multi-sensory experience that extends beyond sight.

To give the prints the space they deserve, I drew inspiration from traditional samurai attire. Wide, geometric cuts not only provide ample room for the designs but also ensure exceptional comfort. The androgynous silhouettes embrace all gender identities, allowing everyone to feel confident and included in the collection.

With a NEO.Fashion scholarship, my collection was showcased at Berlin Fashion Week 2019. I had the opportunity to present it in a dedicated show, inviting the audience to engage with the topic of color blindness. The collection features seven gender-neutral outfits, comprising a total of 24 pieces.
